MUARA NAVAL BASE, Monday 04 April 2016 – KDB DARUTTAQWA set sail to Padang, West Sumatera, Republic of Indonesia today to take part in the Multilateral Naval Exercise KOMODO 2016, which will be hosted by Tentera Nasional Indonesia-Angkatan Laut (TNI-AL). Exercise KOMODO will commence from 12 April 2016.
The deployment is led by 511 Commander Khairil Haji Abdul Rahman, Commanding Officer KDB DARUTTAQWA with a total crew of 59 personnel including attachment personnel. Present as the guest of honour during the farewell event was the Deputy Commander RBN, Captain Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaily, senior officers, officers and personnel as well as families of the deployed personnel. To bless the deployment, a Doa Selamat was recited by Corporal Pengiran Kamarul Sarif bin Pengiran Serpudin.
KDB DARUTTAQWA will join with 31 other countries participating in this exercise. The theme for this year exercise is “Readiness and Cooperation for Peace” focusing on Maritime Peacekeeping Operations (MPKO) and Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR). Some of the evolution of exercises includes Naval Communication Exercise (NAVCOM), Maritime Interdiction Operation (MIO), Boarding Exercise (BOARDEX) and Cross Deck Exercise.
Besides promoting defence diplomacy and strengthening ties between participating countries, this multilateral exercise is also an opportunity for both officers and sailors alike to gain experience, enhance their knowledge and skills, and improve interoperability between personnel of different nationalities and backgrounds. Additionally, this exercise will help to boost cooperation among the navies in their proficiency and understanding of procedure in conducting joint maritime operation especially MPKO and HADR operations.
KDB DARUTTAQWA will make their journey home on 18 April 2016 and due to arrive in Muara Naval Base on 25 April 2016.
