BRUNEI-MUARA, Monday, 12 June 2017 – Five local fishermen who were drifting at sea after their boat had engine failure were rescued by KDB AFIAT, 10 nautical miles northeast from Champion Oilfield early this morning.
The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) ship was on patrol on when it received the report of the stranded boat at 0132.
KDB AFIAT activated a Search and Rescue mission and successfully located the fishermen at 0200. All five locals were in good health when rescued. Their boat was later towed back to Muara and the fishermen were presented to the Marine Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force at 0530.
The rescue was the second successful operation made by the RBN ship in June. Previously a similar rescue was made on 5 June 2017.
