DOHA, Qatar Tuesday 29 March 2016 – The 5th Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference or DIMDEX 2016 in short was officiated by His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar today. The event showcased a splendid show witnessed by His Highness the Emir and the Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Qatar, Mr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah along with the representatives from not just regional but international armed forces and navies.
The Commander of Royal Brunei Navy was also present during the occasion as the representative of Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam and Royal Brunei Armed Forces for the biennial event.
Hosted and organised by the Qatar Armed Forces, the 5th edition of Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference – DIMDEX 2016 –taken place in Doha from the 29-31, March 2016. During the launching ceremony, the Chief of Naval Staff of Qatar Emiri Navy, Staff Major General (SEA) Mohammed Nasser Al Mohammad presented his opening remarks.
During the exhibition, the Commander of RBN had the opportunity to meet with the Commander of Royal Jordanian Navy, Brigadier General Ibrahim Salman Nuemat, where both sides expressed appreciation for the meeting as to amplify the bilateral relations between both countries and defence establishments.
As claimed in its official website, DIMDEX 2016 comes at a critical time when the world’s attention is focused on the maritime security of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s offshore waters. DIMDEX addresses the growing need for sophisticated maritime defence technology to control and defend these waters from ever-changing threats, and provide protection to sovereign territories, maritime assets and trade routes upon which not only national economies, but the global economy relies. By bringing together exhibitors with the latest technologies to meet with the world’s senior defence procurement officials and decision-makers, DIMDEX performs a critical role in satisfying the expanding maritime security needs of the MENA region and contributing towards the stability of this geo-strategic area.
