MUARA Tuesday, 10 April 2018 – The newly established Naval Aviation Training Department (NATD), under the umbrella of the Royal Brunei Navy’s (RBN) Naval Training Centre (NTC), held the Closing Ceremony for the Ship Helicopter Operations Qualifying Course (SHOQC) 01/2018. Present as the Guest of Honour was the Commandant of Naval Training Centre, Captain Zil Husam bin Hj Abd Rahman, RBN.
The SHOQC successfully trained and qualified a total of 14 crew from KDB DARULEHSAN as their own Ship Aviation Team (SAT); two officers are now qualified as Flying Coordinators (FlyCo), an officer and a senior rate as Flight Deck Officers (FDOs) and eight (08) crewmen as Flight Deck Team (FDT). With a number 3the demanding ship-helicopter operational needs.
The first of its kind, the pioneering SHOQC was started to raise, train and sustain the fleet, in order to maintain RBN’s operational capability at a high standard amongst regional and international navies, in collaboration with No. 1 Wing from the Royal Brunei Air Force, committed their Bolkow and Blackhawk helicopters to the maximum for a three-day training period. The course was conducted for three weeks in stages of theory lessons, harbour practicals followed by an intensive sea phase period.
Also present were Commanding Officer Naval Training (CONT), the Fleet’s Chief of Staff (FCOS), Squadron Commander and the Head of Fleet Standard as well as NATD instructors.
