MUARA, Thursday, 3 February 2022 - The Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, made a farewell visit to the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) this afternoon as he ends his 34-year service in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). The event was conducted in accordance with COVID-19 endemic phase guidelines from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Health.
Upon arrival to Muara Naval Base, the Commander RBAF received the quarter guard, mounted by RBN personnel and welcomed onboard KDB DARULEHSAN by Commander RBN, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Haji Seruji, and senior officers of RBN. As a part of the farewell ceremony, the RBN honoured his service with a sail pass consisting of KDB BERKAT, KDB AFIAT and assets from the Support Squadron and Naval Surface Action Group. Dewan Samudera where the Senior and Junior Ratings presented their parting gifts to Commander RBAF, manned the rail and held a farewell piping ceremony.
The farewell visit continued at the Officers’ Mess for an interaction session with RBN officers where they held a group photo session, high tea and presented their parting gift to Commander RBAF. There, the Commander RBAF gave his farewell remarks which was broadcasted to Senior Ratings’ Mess,
Dewan Samudera and other stations of RBN via video teleconference articulating his reflections as a reminder of the core business of the RBAF as a whole and the significant role of RBN in defence diplomacy. Further, Commander RBAF expressed his appreciations to the RBN for the support in combatting the pandemic through the COVID-19 Holding Area Belait (CHABEL) as it represents the resilience and adaptability that an armed forces requires in tackling dynamic challenges. Lastly, he highlighted the importance of ensuring the welfare of all RBAF personnel and to further instil
Taqwa towards the ultimate objective of defending the nation’s sovereignty.
Commander RBAF had a final photo session together with members of RBN’s Executive Board and was ushered by a parade of RBN personnel as he left Muara Naval Base. The RBN honours Commander RBAF for his service of 34 years in RBAF and thanks him for his guidance and leadership during his tenure as Commander RBAF.
