Tokyo, Monday, 03 February 2025 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) participated in the 28th Indo-Pacific Naval College Seminar (IPNCS), held from 3rd to 7th February 2025 at the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) Command and Staff College, Tokyo. Representing the Royal Brunei Navy was Commander Mohammad Faizal Ezam bin Haji Abas, Commandant of the Naval Training Centre, Royal Brunei Navy.
The seminar, themed “Free and Open Maritime Order: Cooperative Efforts for the Future Indo-Pacific,” provided participants with the opportunity to engage in discussions and knowledge-sharing on key topics, including The Challenges of Unmanned Assets for Maritime Security, Education and Training for Next-Generation Officers, and The Role of the Navy and Multilateral Cooperation in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR).
The seminar was officiated by Vice Admiral Ishimaki Yoshiyasu, President of the JMSDF Command and Staff College, who emphasized the importance of fostering naval cooperation, mutual trust, and maritime security collaboration as key pillars for global peace, stability, and prosperity beyond the Indo-Pacific region.
The IPNCS serves as a platform to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation among navies through professional exchanges, discussions on maritime security from specialized perspectives, and contributions towards the realization of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific. This year’s seminar gathered senior naval officers from 23 countries, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Peru, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Thailand, Tonga, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Viet Nam, along with students from the JMSDF Advanced Command and Staff College.
The participation of the Royal Brunei Navy in this seminar underscores its commitment to strengthening maritime security cooperation, fostering regional partnerships, and enhancing professional development through engagements with international counterparts.
