YANGON, Thursday, 20 October 2016 – The 5th ASEAN Navy Young Officers’ Interaction (5th ANYOI) was held at Yangon, Myanmar from 16 – 19 October 2016. It is an ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting initiative held annually. Representing the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) was Lieutenant Junior Grade Muhammad Muizz bin Hj Md Jaini, Human Resource Officer, RBN.
The program commenced with a welcoming reception hosted by Captain Kyaw Soe Moe, Deputy Commander Naval Training Command Myanmar Navy at the Summer Parkview Hotel. It was a good opportunity for an icebreaking session for all the 18 ASEAN delegates.
The 5th ANYOI seminar was launched by Captain Kyaw with his opening remarks stating the importance for future leaders to understand our navies’ capabilities and roles. He also mentioned that the seminar will be an excellent platform to find solutions to potential challenges in the future. The seminar proceeded with the viewpoint presentation themed ‘Developing Naval Capability through Interoperability.’ Various viewpoints were highlighted during the seminar, mostly pointing out the importance of the region and its vulnerability to maritime security challenges.
After the seminar, a Courtesy Call was held with Rear Admiral Moe Aung, Chief of Staff, Myanmar Navy. The delegates thanked the Chief of Staff for the excellent hospitality accorded to them. The Courtesy Call was concluded with the presentation of mementoes.
The delegates had the opportunity to participate in a rowing and yachting activity at the Yacht Club, Inle Lake. It was a good opportunity to promote camaraderie ship among delegates in a sports interaction. In the evening, an Official Dinner was hosted by the Chief of Staff, giving the delegates the privilege to taste Myanmar’s signature delicacy and witnessing a cultural performance by the Myawaddy Band.
The interactions also included a hands-on experience onboard the Fast Attack Craft Union of Myanmar Ship (UMS) 557. The ship sailed towards the Jetty of 1st Fleet Myanmar Navy and berth alongside Myanmar’s first indigenous Frigate UMS King Aung Zeya, 1st Fleet Myanmar Navy. During the passage, the delegates were assigned to specific tasks and over saw the evolutions such as Officer of the Watch Maneuvers and semaphore exercise. The interactions were followed by a working visit to the Naval Dockyard and Naval Training Command.
The interactions concluded with a cultural visit to Bogyoke Market and Schwedagon Pagoda which gave an insight on the rich culture of Myanmar.
