RIMBA, Tuesday 30 August 2016 – Today marked the official visit of Rear Admiral (RADM) Lai Chung Han, Chief of Navy, Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) in conjunction with the 35th Series of EXERCISE PELICAN, in a bid to promote defence relations between the Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.The visit commenced with a Courtesy Call from RADM Lai Chung Han to First Admiral Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi, Commander of Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) at the Air Movement Centre, Royal Brunei Air Force.
During the visit, RADM Lai Chung Han along with His Excellency Dr Ng Eng Hen Minister of Defence Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Ng Chee Khern Permanent Secretary Defence Development, His Excellency Dato Paduka Seri Perry Lim and other fellow delegates from the Republic of Singapore embarked the Patrol Vessel KDB DARULEHSAN for a ship visit to witness the conduct of the EXERCISE PELICAN 35/16.
Subsequently, RADM Lai Chung Han joined the audience to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at Istana Nurul Iman and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and General of RBAF, at Qashr Al-Meezaan.
Meanwhile in the afternoon, RADM Lai Chung Han made two separate Courtesy Calls to First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Deputy Ministry of Defence (DMOD) and to the Commander of RBAF.
The discussions mentioned that EX PELICAN enhances the professionalism and interoperability between the RSN and RBN, and underscores the strong and longstanding defence ties between Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. RSN and RBN also interact regularly through a range of activities, including professional exchange programmes. These interactions have reinforced the strong bonds between the personnel of the two navies.
Later in the evening, the Commander of RBN hosted the casual exercise dinner at the RBAF Sports Complex, Serasa. RADM Lai Chung Han along with his fellow Singapore delegates interacted with the RBN officers while indulging in a popular local cuisine.
