MUARA, Friday, 24 July 2026 – The closing ceremony of the Maritime Communication Officer Course 2026 was held at the Warrant Officers’ Mess, Royal Brunei Navy, marking the successful completion of the five-week course by four officers.
The ceremony was graced by Lieutenant Commander Pg Mohd Zakwan bin Pg Haji Salleh, RBN, as the Guest of Honour, with senior officers, instructors, and invited guests also in attendance.
Designed to equip future Communication Officers with the expertise and leadership required to effectively supervise and direct their respective departments onboard RBN vessels, the rigorous curriculum covered Data Message Processing, Radio Communication, the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), OPTASK Communications, Operational Communication Procedures, Voice Procedures, Fleetwork, and Maritime Aviation. The syllabus underscored the vital role communication officers play in enabling effective command and control, maintaining peak operational readiness, and securing reliable communications while fostering leadership grounded in professionalism, sound judgement, and integrity.
A key highlight of the programme was Exercise BERSATU BERSAMA 01/26, a simulated sea day exercise that challenged participants to apply their training in realistic operational scenarios. By managing complex communications, responding swiftly to simulated emergencies, and supporting command decision-making under pressure, the graduates demonstrated exceptional teamwork, markedly strengthening their operational competence and confidence at sea.
