KOTA BATU, Friday, 25 November 2016 - Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) hosted the Orienteering Challenge for female personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) for the year 2016/2017, held at Taman Bukit Mentiri, Jalan Kota Batu.

The Guest of Honour of the event is 376 Lieutenant Colonel Hajah Asnah binti Haji Matamit, SO1 Finance, Directorate of Personnel, Ministry of Defence, Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

Participating teams in the event are female representatives from Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF), Training Institute RBAF (TI RBAF) and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). The teams competed in an orienteering challenge where contestants are to run to various checkpoints scattered across the area to accumulate points.

The aim of the event is to cultivate and encourage a sports culture and the spirit of sportsmanship through active participation. The Orienteering Challenge also tests the contestants’ understanding and basic military skills especially with regards to ground navigation, as they are provided with a compass and a map. The event has also helped in strengthening friendly ties amongst the female RBAF personnel across different units.

The event concluded with a prize giving ceremony by the guest of honour. The overall winner of the event was RBN whilst MINDEF was placed second and TI ABDB was placed third.
