MUARA, Wednesday, 26 October 2016 – The final match of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Sepak Takraw Tournament 2016 was held yesterday at the RBN Gymnasium. The 3-days tournament started on Monday, 24th October 2016.
A total of 4 teams competed this year which consists of Armada A, Armada B, Pangkalan A and Pangkalan B. This year’s tournament saw each team contesting two different categories namely the Team Category and the Inter-Regu Category.
For the Team Category, Pangkalan A emerged as champions beating Pangkalan B in the finals which was played on Tuesday, 25th October 2016. The grand finale of the tournament, the Inter-Regu category was held on the final day of the tournament where again, Pangkalan A became the champions beating again their main rival Pangkalan B.
Pangkalan A won the match in a very determined fashion winning the first two sets comfortably. The match saw a very feisty encounter between the two teams and it was not short of entertainment with the score 21-17 to Pangkalan A in the first set. In the second set, Pangkalan A went rampant which saw them won the set by a bigger margin with the score being 21-14.
One of the main objectives of the tournament is to scout for players to represent RBN for the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Sepak Takraw tournament 2016 which will be held next month starting from the 8 – 16 November 2016. Above other things, the main aim of the tournament is to unearth talented young takraw prodigies for RBN and to foster the spirit of sportsmanship, strengthen camaraderie while also promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Present as the Guest of Honour during the final was First Admiral Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pg Hj Muhammad, Commander of RBN.
