MUARA, Friday, 24 November 2017 – The Officer Under Training Course (OUTC) series 2/2017, was conducted by the Royal Brunei Technical Services – Defense Conseil International (RBTS-DCI) and Naval Training Centre of Royal Brunei Navy (NTC, RBN), and concluded with a closing ceremony held at Samudera Hall, NTC at the Muara Naval Base. Present as guest of honor was the Acting Fleet Commander, Commander Haji Nor Ariwwin bin Mohammad Ali, RBN as well as the RBN ship’s Commanding Officers, NTC officers and staff, Instructors and RBTS staff.
The OUTC was a 6-weeks course, commenced on the 13th October, designed to provide junior fleet officers with foundational knowledge and understanding on subjects to navigation, seamanship as well as firefighting and damage control. The objective of the course is to improve the level of knowledge, roles as well as the responsibilities of each junior officers before holding the future role as Officer of the Watch onboard RBN ships.
Speaking as the course representative, Lt JG Ak Mohd Fadhil bin Pg Hj Ali, RBN as the most senior student, shared their experiences and reflections throughout the course as well as some recommendations for the improvements of future OUTC. He also highlighted that this course serves as the first milestone for junior fleet officers who have just embarked their careers as Naval Officers.
The speech was followed by a certificate presentation to the course participants by the Guest of Honour. In his closing remarks, he addressed that the knowledge gained from the course will ensure that the competency of young officers will be at a high standard and the professionalism of the work placed maintained. He also added that practicing the newly acquired knowledge is important as this will improve with practice overtime. The closing ceremony ended with a closing doa and a group photo session with all the distinguished guests.
