BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Friday, 16 February 2018 – A Flag Hoisting Ceremony in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam’s 34th National Day Celebrations was held today at the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The National Day Flag Hoisting Team, which included personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) marched in for the presentation and reception of the large national flag from the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports.
The giant-sized flag measuring 13.6 by 7.3 metres was raised by 1060 Lieutenant Grade Junior Helmi bin Junaidi, RBN accompanied by the national anthem, ‘Allah Peliharakan Sultan’ by a choir group. The ceremony concluded with the handing over of flags and National Day posters by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports to all district officers.
The raising of the giant flag in the capital is a call for government buildings, shop premises and households throughout the country to raise their flags from 16th February till 25th February 2018. The national flag is a landmark, a symbol of sovereignty, honour and dignity of a country. The hoisting of the national flag symbolises the spirit of patriotism, nationalism and unity.
