Sydney, Tuesday 11 November 2014 – The Exercise Planning Conference (EPC) PENGUIN exercise series 16/15 between Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) was officiated at HMAS Waterhen, Naval Base.The conference was represented by Major (L) Mohammad Zouhdy bin Haji Abdul Razak, Cpt (L) Dayangku Lyadia Ulandari binti Pengiran Haji Muhamad and Lt (L) Nur Mahirah binti Haji Abas as the RBN Lead team.
Present during the conference was Commander Viktor Pilicic and Commander Mick Stewart both from Maritime Operations Branch, Fleet Command representing the RAN Lead Team.
The objective of the EPC is to enable the exercise planners from both navies to discuss and agree with a common schedule of events (SOE) that would adhere to the Penguin Exercise Training Instruction (PEXTIS) in order to strengthen and enhance mutual cooperation and understanding between the RBN and RAN.
It has been agreed by both navies to conduct a series of maritime interoperability capabilities such as Critical Contact of Interest Tracking (CCOI Tracking), Maritime Interdiction Operation and Boarding Exercise. The overall objective of the exercise remains the same with a focus for PENGUIN 16/15 on combined maritime surveillance and border security operations.
The exercise codenamed ‘PENGUIN 16/15 (PG15)’ is the sixteenth in a series of bilateral exercises between the two navies and expected to be hosted by RBN. The Penguin exercise will commence in Brunei from the 20th April 2015 until 24th April 2015.
