MUARA NAVAL BASE, Friday, 21 October 2016 – TODAY marked the end of the Bilateral Exercise code named ‘EX HELANG LAUT 17B/16’ between the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and the Indonesian Navy (IDN), which was conducted from 16 – 22 October 2016.

Over the last five days, both navies have achieved several objectives during the Sea Phase exercise, namely sharing and strengthening operational procedures through combined training and various sea evolutions.


Subsequently, the Harbour Phase provided the opportunity for both navies to interact through friendly sport activities. It was a great competition as both teams were very enthusiastic and competitive. Overall, the COMORANGE (KRI USMAN HARUN and KDB BERKAT) achieved the highest score and walked home with the HELANG LAUT Cup. Meanwhile, COMBLUE (KDB DARUTTAQWA and KRI TERAPANG) won the Tug-of-War. The interaction promotes a healthy competition and team development between both navies.


During the closing ceremony, signing of Exercise Report was led between Commander Sahibul Bahari bin Hj Zainal Abidin, Commanding Officer of KDB DARUTTAQWA as the Commander Task Group (CTG) 17.1 and Captain Alan Dahlan, Commanding Officer of KRI USMAN HARUN as the Deputy Commander Task Group (DCTG) 17.1 who was representing IDN officially deactivated the exercise.


The closing ceremony took place at Multi National Coordination Centre (MNCC), Muara. Also present during the ceremony were officers and enlisted personnel from both navies.


RBN and IDN share common values as well as traditions and are looking forward on continuing on strengthening bonds and the professional relationship through the conduct of EXERCISE HELANG LAUT. Part of the bilateral interaction also consisted of a Courtesy Call, Curry Lunch and a Cocktail Reception on-board KRI USMAN HARUN.
