MUARA, Friday, 17 November 2017 - The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) today decommissioned the KDB PERWIRA, the last of PERWIRA Class Coastal Patrol Craft (CPC) after 43 years in service with the navy. She was built by Vosper Thornycroft in the Republic of Singapore, along with her sister ships, PEMBURU & PENYERANG which were decommissioned last year and early this year respectively.
The decommissioning ceremony that was held at the RBN’s Naval Base was officiated by the guest of honour, First Admiral Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad, Commander of the RBN.
The event witnessed the lowering of the national flag, the ship’s ensign and her commissioning pennant, which were then presented to the Commander of Royal Brunei Navy.
This ceremony marked the end of the sterling service and journey of the PERWIRA Class vessels which had been part of the earlier fleets of ships of the RBN in carrying out its role in protecting Brunei Darussalam’s maritime sovereignty.
Throughout her service, KDB PERWIRA has made vital contributions to the roles of RBN and participated in operational deployments in the region, patrols and multilateral exercises with other navies.
Present at the decommissioning ceremony were the RBN’s Executive Committee, officers and personnel.
The current RBN Commander was among those who has commanded CPC.
