MUARA, Friday 30 December 2016 – This morning Royal Brunei Navy bid farewell to one of her Coastal Patrol Craft, KDB PEMBURU, in a Decommissioning Ceremony at Jetty Alpha, Muara Naval Base.
The Guest of honour for the ceremony was the Commander of Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi Bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad. The event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Ustaz Muhammad Rafiuddin bin Hj Md Ali, RBN Religious teacher, followed by the Declaration of the Decommissioning of the KDB PEMBURU by the Guest of honour.
The ceremony was conducted by Coastal Patrol Craft Squadron Commander, 720 Lt Mohammad Aliashim bin Alias, with the lowering down of the Brunei and Ensign Flags and Commissioning pennant to signify the end of KDB PEMBURU’s long service to the country. As RBN officers and men looked on and bid farewell, the flags and commissioning pennant were then presented by the Squadron Commander to the Guest of Honour. Doa Penutup was recited to bless the ceremony.
KDB PEMBURU was built by Vosper Thornycroft in Singapore and was commissioned by the Royal Brunei Navy on 17 June 1975. She served with distinction for 41 years, 6 months and 14 days, conducting countless patrols, operational deployments within the region as well as multilateral exercise with other Navies, having made vital contributions to the Navy’s delivery of a secure Brunei territorial water. Beside operational tasks, KDB PEMBURU was also involved in tasks that supported local trawlers, such as towing them back to Muara. Her sister ships, namely KDB PERWIRA and KDB PENYERANG and are still serving in the RBN.
