Muara Naval Base, Friday, 04 May 2018 – A Closing Ceremony for the Body Mass Index (BMI) Remedial Program was conducted at the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Swimming Pool, Muara Naval Base. The guest of honour for the event was Captain Zil Husam Bin Abdul Rahman, RBN, Commandant Naval Training of RBN. Also present during the ceremony were RBN officers, RBN senior rank and RBN Physical Training Instructors.
The BMI Remedial Program was a 12-weeks program which commenced on 04rd February 2018. It is designed to decrease BMI of RBAF personnel who have failed their BMI. The program required both physical and mental fitness of all 7 personnel who joined the program. Also included in the program was the implementation of a daily diet healthy food program. At the end of the program, participants are expected to pass their BMI as well as pass their basic military physical fitness test.
The event commenced by the guest of honour, who launched the Crossfit Challenge which consisted of a 50m length swim, 1.8km run and lastly the obstacles challenge. Speaking on behalf of the program participants was 18397 Sld Aziz Alberto Afonso bin Metussin. He shared their experiences and reflections throughout the 12-weeks program. He also added that this program was not an easy task for them to lose many weights. He highlighted that all of the participants lost more than 10kg. The speech was followed by a certificate presentation to the participants by the Guest of Honour. During the Guest of Honour’s speech, he emphasised to all Head of Departments to support their men and women who request to enter the program. The guest of honour also extended his appreciation to the RBN PTI’s who conducted the 12-weeks program. He added that he hopefully in the future, this program will become a regular program and see more RBN personnel who have failed their BMI to join the next BMI Remedial Programs.
Of all 7 participants, 50225 Sld Abd Azim bin Ibrahim lost the most weight, losing a total of 29kg. The closing ceremony ended with the recitation of doa and a group photo session with all the distinguished guests.
