PATTAYA, Monday, 20 November 2017 – The opening ceremony of the ASEAN International Fleet Review (IFR) 2017 was held Sunday morning on the 19 November 2017 at the Dusit Thani Pattaya Hotel to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The ceremony was officially launched by General (Retired) Prawit Wongsuwon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Thailand.
KDB DARUTTAQWA is currently in Pattaya Bay, along 13 ships from Royal Thai Navy (RTN) and 24 other international ships, participating in the event. In conjunction with the IFR 207, KDB DARUTTAQWA is also participating in the First ASEAN Maritime National Exercise (AMNEX), where the sea phase will commence tomorrow. Other activities included the 11th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting and the ASEAN Night Reception that was held the day prior to the IFR.
This morning, the Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the ceremonial inspection at the IFR 2017, sailing past all participating ships on board the HTMS THALANG. First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) was in attendance at the event amongst other distinguished Chiefs of Navy and their representatives.
KDB DARUTTAQWA will depart Pattaya on the 22 November 2017 and is scheduled to arrive Brunei Darussalam on the 29 November 2017.
