PANTAI BINTURAN, TUTONG, Thursday, 8 October 2026 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), operating through its Maritime Special Operations Squadron (MARSOS), has further strengthened its longstanding bilateral defence relationship with the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) during PELICAN.
A key highlight of the exercise was the inaugural launch of the Underwater Demolitions Range (UWDR) demonstration held in Brunei Darussalam. The event was jointly witnessed by First Admiral Sahibul Bahari bin Haji Zainal Abidin, Commander of the RBN, and Rear Admiral Sean Wat, Chief of Navy of the RSN. The demonstration successfully showcased complex underwater demolition procedures, advanced operational capabilities and the high professionalism of the participating personnel.
Developed through close cooperation between the RBN’s MARSOS and the RSN’s Naval Diving Unit (NDU) Clearance Diving Group (CDG), the UWDR initiative provides a dedicated training environment designed to deeply enhance underwater demolition capabilities and overall operational proficiency.
In addition to the demonstration, Exercise PELICAN facilitated critical professional exchanges and joint training in Maritime Explosive Ordnance Disposal (MEOD). This phase enabled personnel from both navies to share operational knowledge, technical expertise and best practices, ultimately strengthening maritime interoperability between the RBN and RSN.
