NEW ZEALAND, Monday 23 May 2016 – The Final Planning Conference (FPC) of ADMM-PLUS EXPERTS’ WORKING GROUP (EWG) MARITIME SECURITY (MS) FIELD TRAINING EXERCISE (FTX), EXERCISE MAHI TANGAROA ’16’ was hosted by NEW ZEALAND recently. The FPC was held from 23-26 May 2016 in Auckland, New Zealand. The FPC was chaired together by Brunei Darussalam and New Zealand who are the current Co-Chairs of the ADMM-Plus EWG on MS. Co-chairing the meeting was the Deputy Commander of the RBN, Captain Hj Othman Hj Suhaili @ Suhaily RBN and the Director Asia, Ministry of Defence New Zealand, Mike Thompson.
The FPC was officially opened by Captain David McEwan, Captain Fleet Operational Readiness, Commodore Jim Gilmore, Maritime Component Commander graced the closing of the mtg.
The Exercise Mahi Tangaroa ‘16’, is expected to take place from November 13 to 17, followed by International Naval Review, to commemorate Royal New Zealand Navy’s 75th Anniversary.
Exercise Mahi Tangaroa ‘16 is aimed at promoting cooperation as well as interoperability, and information sharing among the ADMM-Plus member countries in addressing global common on non-traditional Maritime Security threats.
It is also expected to incorporate the ADMM-Plus FTX Standard Operating Procedures and the document of Code of Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES).
During the FPC, participants were to confirm their staffs and assets contribution including logistics requirements. The FPC also discussed the exercise’s organizational structure, along with administrative matters.
