MUARA, Wednesday 19 July 2017 – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and the Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), consented to award the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Command Badge to Chief of Navy, Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), Rear Admiral Lew Chuen Hong in recognition and appreciation for his service in enhancing the relations between RBN and RSN.
The award was presented by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, the Commander of RBAF.
Rear Admiral Lew Chuen Hong took over as the Chief of Navy, RSN on 16 June 2017. Whilst in Brunei Darussalam, he also paid courtesy calls to the Deputy Minister of Defence, Commander of RBAF.
During the courtesy call to the Commander of RBAF, Rear Admiral Lew Chuen Hong received congratulatory wishes on his new appointment as RSN’s new Chief with effect from 16 June 2017 as well as the new addition to the RSN’s operational assets with the commissioning of the RSN’s first-of-class Littoral Mission Vessel (LMV), RSS INDEPENDENCE on 5 May 2017 in conjunction with the RSN’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The Commander of RBAF also further expressed his satisfaction for the continued defence cooperation between the two armed forces and hoped for more progress in the near future.
Before the award, Rear Admiral Lew Chuen Hong made a courtesy call to First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, the Commander of RBN. Both sides discussed on naval-related activities between the navies of both countries in exercises and training.
