Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 23 August 2016 – First Admiral Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pg Hj Muhammad, Commander of Royal Brunei Navy is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 22 – 25 August 2016 for the 10th ASEAN Navy Chief Meeting (10th ANCM) 2016.
The ANCM is an annual activity that is rotationally hosted by the ASEAN navies with the aim to enhance cooperation and interoperability amongst ASEAN navies as well as promoting regional maritime security through various confidence building initiatives. This year ANCM is hosted by the Royal Malaysian Navy and this inaugural event was officiated by the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Defence, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Mohd Johari bin Baharum.
With the theme “Enhancing Operational Interoperability”, the meeting discussed and shared a host of agenda covering pending matters, new initiatives and future activities such as ANCM Plus Arrangements, Anti Sea Robbery Cooperation (ASRC) and next year first ever ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise (AMNEX) and International Fleet Review (IFR) in conjunction with ASEAN 50th Anniversary which will be hosted by Royal Thai Navy. The meeting also continues to reaffirm the commitment of ASEAN Navies in collaborating together in addressing the non-traditional maritime threats in the region and beyond.
This year ANCM was also attended by the other ASEAN Chief Navies and representatives namely; Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman bin Hj Ahmad Badaruddin, Chief of Navy of Royal Malaysian Navy as the Chairman of the meeting, Admiral Tea Vinh, Commander of Royal Cambodian Navy; Vice Admiral Arie H.Sembiring, Vice Chief of the Indonesian Navy; Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar Navy; Rear Admiral Caesar Taccad AFP, Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy; Rear Admiral Lai Chung Han, Chief of Navy of Republic Singapore Navy; Admiral NA Arreenich, Commander-in-Chief of Royal Thai Navy; Rear Admiral Pham Hoai Nam, Commander-in-Chief of Viet Nam People’s Navy and Colonel Keosouvanh Phangphilavong, Defense Attache of Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
Taking the opportunity, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy had the convenience to hold discussions with the Chief of Navy of the Royal Malaysian Navy and with the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Navy through the scheduled bilateral meetings.
Additionally, FADM Pg DSP Norazmi was given the honor to have an audience with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Shafaruddin Idris Shah along with the other ASEAN Navy Chiefs; where Sultan Shafaruddin discussed and exchanged opinions on various matters. The honor added by the event organiser in the evening for all the ASEAN Navy Chiefs with respective spouses to join the Official Dinner hosted by the Chief Minister of Malacca, Datuk Seri Ir. Haji Idris bin Haji Haron at Casa Del Rio Hotel, Malacca.
