MUARA NAVAL BASE, Wednesday 31 August 2016 – The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) have officially concluded their bilateral flagship naval exercise, Exercise PELICAN, which was held from 24 to 31 August.
To mark the 40th year of defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, this year’s exercise involved a VVIP visit on board KDB DARULEHSAN during the sea phase of the exercise. The VVIP delegation from both Singapore and Brunei Darussalam witnessed the landing of the Seahawk helicopter in which its purpose was to develop and enhance the interoperability between both navies.
The delegation from the Singapore include; the Defence Minister, His Excellency Dr Ng Eng Hen; Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) Mr. Ng Chee Khern; His Excellency Lim Hong Huai, Singapore’s High Commissioner to Brunei; Chief of Singapore’s Defence Force, Lieutenant General Dato Paduka Seri Perry Lim; and Chief of Singapore Navy, Rear Admiral Lai Chung Han. Also present were Deputy Minister of Defence First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit; Permanent Secretary of Defence Datin Paduka Hjh Suriyah Hj Umar; Commander RBAF Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah; and the Commander Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad.
During the closing ceremony today, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Ng, Commanding Officer of RSS SUPREME and Deputy Commander Task Group of the exercise officially deactivated Exercise PELICAN 35/16. Present during the ceremony were all exercise participants from both the RBN and RSN.
Throughout the exercise, both navies have achieved to meet the objectives, in which it includes enhancing the interoperability and capacity through various professional exchanges and evolutions. Exercise PELICAN has continued to deepen the strong and long-standing relations between the RSN and RBN, and has continued to be the backbone of the professional bilateral interactions between both navies. On the whole, this year’s Exercise PELICAN has significantly boosted the level of interoperability and readiness between both navies.
Following the closing ceremony, the RBN then proceeded to send off the RSS SUPREME as they depart back to Singapore.
