MUARA, Monday 12 May 14 – The Exercise Planning Conference (EPC) PELICAN EXERCISE series 33/14 between Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) officiated at Multi National Conference Centre (MNCC), Muara.The objective of the EPC is to develop a better understanding, sound planning and foster a good working relationship between the two navies through the practise of the common procedures and naval traditions.
LTC Aaron Beng, the Head of Delegation had a Courtesy Call to Royal Brunei Navy Fleet Commander, Lt Col (L) Haji Yusuf bin Masron then followed by the Opening Ceremony of EPC PELICAN EXERCISE Series 33/14.
Lt Col Muhd Hadi Syarifuddin, Commanding Officer of KDB DARULAMAN and Maj (L) Haji Suhailee bin Pungut, Commanding Officer of KDB DARUSSALAM was also present at the conference.
The command teams from RSN’s Formidable-class Stealth Frigate (RSS INTREPID) as well as RBN’s Darussalam-class Patrol Vessels (KDB DARUSSALAM) and (KDB DARULAMAN) will be involve in this year’s exercise, during which the two navies will be conducting a series of tactical discussions and simulation exercises concerning naval warfare which includes Anti-Surface, Anti-Submarine, Anti-Air and Maritime Air Operations. The exercise itself will include a tactical phase, which incorporates tactical procedures on tactical manoeuvres and encounter exercise. These exercises were aimed to achieve a greater mutual understanding and to practise the PELICAN Standard Exercise Procedures (PELSEP).
The exercise this year is hosted by Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and will be conducted at the Philippine Sea enroute to Guam prior to RIMPAC Exercise from 7 June 2014 until 9 June 2014.
