MUARA, Monday, 27 November 2017 – The Opening Ceremony of the Asia Pacific Regional Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Seminar 2017 was held at Nakhoda Auditorium, Naval Training Centre, Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
Present to officiate the opening ceremony for the seminar was the Commander of RBN, First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, RBN. Also present at the opening ceremony were the resident Defence Advisers / Attaches of participating countries.
A total number of 57 are attending the seminar, including 23 officers from international from Cambodia, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Republic of the Philippines, Republic of Singapore, Thailand, United States and Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
While 38 local officers from different agencies and departments across the Ministries from the Ministry of Defence, ministry of Primary Resources & Tourism, Attorney General’s Chambers, Marine Police, Royal Brunei Police Force, Royal Customs & Excise Department, Maritime Port Authority, National Maritime Coordination Centre, Narcotics Control Bureau, Survey Department, Directorate of Defence Policy, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS), Military Legal Unit, Joint Force Headquarters, Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Brunei Air Force.
The 4-day seminar is delivered by lecturers from the International Commonwealth Training Unit (ICTU) from Maritime Warfare School, HMS COLLINGWOOD United Kingdom. The seminar aimed to give a broad understanding of the current strategic and security environment, a deeper awareness on maritime security within EEZ.
The seminar touched on the importance of taking a comprehensive approach on the the International Maritime Law and countering Maritime Threat including the traditional and non-traditional threats which focus on fishery protection, maritime threats and maritime pollution.
