MUARA, Thursday, 05 November 2020- First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaili@Suhaily, Commander of Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) attended the 14th ASEAN NAVY CHIEF MEETING (14th ANCM) conducted virtually in Bilik Pahlawan, Naval Headquarters.
Also in attendance were Commander Khairil bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Fleet Commander of RBN, Commander Sonny Iskandar bin Rasani, Chief of Staff RBN, Staff Officers Grade 2 to Commander Navy and Staff Officers to RBN Headquarters.
The Vietnam People's Navy (VPN) with the theme "Naval Cooperation for a Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN" chaired the 14th ANCM. The conference was attended by 10 ASEAN Naval Chiefs, which commenced with opening remarks by the Vietnam People's Navy Chief, Rear Admiral Tran Thanh Ngiem. This was followed by the presentation of Viewpoint Exchanges on the theme aforementioned, information sharing, future activities and discussion items.
The RBN Commander in his Viewpoint Exchange highlighted the significance of confidence building and enhanced mutual understanding between navies despite the apparent existing global challenges facing humanity today notably the COVID-Pandemic. RBN Commander also underscores the sound cooperative relationship to be taken to a new level and adds more value to ensuring safety at sea. He applauded the initiatives taken by the VPN to conduct ANCM Virtually, this corroborates that the pandemic does not halt the existing challenges but to bridge navies and converge virtually in order to share timely information as time requires.
The meeting concluded with RBN Commander's final remarks on announcing RBN as the next Chairmanship for 15th ANCM, scheduled in August 2021.
