ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY PARTICIPATES IN THE 12TH WESTERN PACIFIC NAVAL SYMPOSIUM SHORT TERM EXCHANGE PROGRAM (WPNS STEP)

Tokyo, Japan—The Royal Brunei Navy was honoured to participate in the 12th Western Pacific Naval Symposium Short Term Exchange Program (WPNS STEP), held from 8 October 2024 to 17 October 2024 in Tokyo, Japan. This prestigious event brought together navies from 29 nations, focusing on promoting mutual understanding and cooperation on maritime security concerns.

The program, under the theme “Future of the Seas—Expanding Navy Cooperation,” aimed to enhance trust and collaboration among the participating nations. Representatives from navies of countries such as Australia, China, India, the United States, and others gathered to exchange information on a wide range of maritime issues.

As a representative of the Royal Brunei Navy, Lieutenant Commander Nuruddin bin Haji Sidup actively participated in discussions and presentations. The event featured insightful exchanges, with all member nations sharing details about their respective naval organisations and their maritime security challenges.

One of the major outcomes of WPNS STEP 2024 was the strengthening of international bonds and increased cooperation between the participating navies. Through these engagements, the program played a key role in promoting mutual understanding and fostering greater security collaboration in the region.

The Royal Brunei Navy remains committed to contributing to international peace and security efforts and looks forward to continued partnerships through forums such as WPNS STEP.​
