FLEET COMMANDER ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY CONDUCTS WORKING OPERATIONAL VISIT TO KOTA KINABALU NAVAL BASE, ROYAL MALAYSIAN NAVY.

KOTA KINABALU, SABAH, MALAYSIA, Tuesday, 28 February 2023 – In an effort to further strengthen bilateral relations and forge a closer working relationship between the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), Captain Khairil Haji Abdul Rahman, RBN, Fleet Commander, of RBN conducted a working operational visit to Kota Kinabalu Naval Base (KKNB) on the 28th February 2023. Accompanying him were, Lieutenant Mohammad Suwady Syakin bin Suffari, RBN, Fleet Navigation and Hydrography Officer, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Abdul Hariz bin Amin, RBN, UAS Mission Commander.

Upon arrival, RBN Fleet Commander and delegation were received by Captain Mohammad Zaman bin Hassan, RMN, KKNB Base Commander at KK Airport. RBN Fleet Commander's arrival at KKNB Headquarters received with Quarter Guard and proceeded with a Courtesy Call with the Deputy Fleet Commander East, First Admiral Dr Najhan bin Mohammad Said on behalf of the Fleet Commander East. During the call, the Deputy Fleet Commander welcomed Fleet Commander RBN to KKNB and both sides reaffirmed the longstanding ties between RMN and RBN as well as between both armed forces in general.

The visit continued with a brief delivered by Commander Norfazeli bin Jaafar, RMN, Asisten Ketua Staf Operasi (N3) where he also highlighted that RMN was looking forward to this year's series of Exercise HORNBILL and BruMal. The brief was concluded with a showcasing of RMN's corporate video screening.

Following the visit to KKNB HQ, RBN Fleet Commander had the opportunity to visit Squadron 601 at the KK Airstation which is a Squadron for their Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). RBN Fleet Commander was received by Commander Mohd Khalid bin Ahmad Zakaria, RMN, Commanding Officer of Squadron 601. The visit to Squadron 601 provided insights on its organisational structure, operations and potential for cooperation on UAS operations between both navies in the future.

The visit was then concluded with a dinner hosted by the Deputy Fleet Commander East at Kampong Nelayan Floating Seafood Market restaurant. Also present were other senior officers of KKNB.
