ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY CONDUCTS INFORMATION SHARING SESSION WITH JAPAN MARITIME SELF-DEFENCE FORCE (JMSDF) VIA VIDEO TELECONFERENCING

Monday, 07 June 2021 – The Royal Brunei Navy conducted an information sharing session with the Japan Maritime Self-defence force JS KASHIMA and JS SETOYUKI via video teleconference broadcasted from the Multi-National Coordination Centre (MNCC), Muara Naval Base.

Present at the MNCC, representing Royal Brunei Navy was Commander Willie Mathias bin Pandan, RBN Commandant of Naval Training. On behalf of JMSDF, Lieutenant Sugimoto Kentaro, Second secretary of Japanese Embassy for Defence Cooperation to Brunei Darussalam was also present during the sharing session.

The presentation topic presented to JMSDF midshipmen and officers by Lieutenant Commander Abu Qusyairi bin Hj Yacob, RBN includes National Maritime Security and the future view of bilateral cooperation between JMSDF and RBN. Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Ishimaki Yoshiyasu, Commander of Japan Training Squadron, JMSDF shared Japan's Defence Policy including their strategic objectives and "Free and open Indo-Pacific Vision".

The interaction program became a productive platform to share best practices and key insights of each Navies' challenges and achievements in maintaining Rules-based order. On completion of the discussion was a virtual gift exchange between RBN and JMSDF.

KDB DARUTTAQWA, KDB AFIAT, JS KASHIMA and JS SETOYUKI are scheduled to conduct Passage Exercise (PASSEX) on 08 June 2021.
