ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY PARTICIPATES IN THE 24TH INTERNATIONAL SEAPOWER SYMPOSIUM VIRTUALLY

MUARA, Wednesday, 15-17 September 2021 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) is currently participating in the 24th International Seapower Symposium (ISS-24) virtually organised by the United States Navy (USN) from 15 – 17 September 2021 and broadcasted from Newport, Rhode Island, United States of America. 

With this year's theme "Strength in Unity', the event is co-hosted by Admiral Mike Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations, and Rear Admiral Shoshana S. Chatfield, President of the US Naval War College. Representing RBN was First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Haji Seruji, Commander of RBN. A total of 130 navies and maritime agencies from around the world participated in the ISS-24.

The symposium aims to promote regional and global maritime cooperation by bringing the world's top naval and academic leaders together to exchange and discuss ideas. During the 'break out session', discussions on a few key issues including 'Preventing Conflict and Promoting Security in the Arctic Frameworks for the Future', 'Maritime Security in the Rules-Based Order', 'Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing' and 'Seapower in the Information Age'. The panellists also addressed topics on 'Combating the Invisible Foe – COVID-19', 'Mental Health, Spiritual Readiness' and 'International Security Implications of Climate Change'. 

The RBN last attended the ISS in 2018 in Newport, Rhode Island.
