ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY JOINS NATIONWIDE CLEAN UP 2021, MARINE DEBRIS.

MUARA, Sunday, 13 June 2021 – 45 personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) participated in this event, A total of 2782.5 kg of trash collected In conjunction of World Environment Day. The Department of Environment, Parks & Recreation, Ministry of Development organized a Nationwide Clean Up Campaign 2021 – Marine Debris: Coastal Marvel, located at Muara Beach, Brunei Muara. 

This campaign carried the slogan ‘It Takes a Nation to Make Brunei Environment Clean’ is in collaboration with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Berhad. The goal of the event is to raise awareness and reduce the waste disposed into the Marine Environment particularly plastic waste, objective is to empower the society to instill the sense of responsibility towards the protecting and conserving the environment through proper waste disposal methods. 

The cleaning campaign started with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by a safety briefing and a warm up. The event then continued with the launch of the Coastal Marvel poster by the guest of Honour’s Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ir. Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health; and Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs, Co-Chairs of the Main Committee on Cleanliness Issues; as well as Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II cum Chairman of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Board of Directors, The event then followed by tree planting before proceeding with the cleaning campaign. 

Protecting the environment to live in a healthy ecosystem requires all walks of life to contribute and today’s event was a testament to another successful initiative by the Ministry of Development. We must not stop here, we must continue to strive and spread the awareness to everyone.. It is our responsibility to keep our surroundings clean and green and we all must make the best of the efforts to do so, to save our Mother Earth and live happily.
